Maternal Machines: Design Speculations about Fantasies of Care is a design research project hosted at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, on which I am the research assistant to Dr Paulina Yurman. The research aims to explore understandings of care, as AI and related technologies become increasingly entangled within these spaces, through exploring ways in which such technologies might address diversely complex and subjective experiences.

Through a series of workshops and activities with new parents, researchers and practitioners from design and technology, AI and ethics, medical humanities and maternal health, Maternal Machines uses design practices and techniques to imagine and materialise speculative imaginaries, implications and design opportunities that offer alternative ways of seeing and doing in spaces of maternal and infant that might lead to diverse forms of wellbeing.
