EV Charger

This project was in response to a design week challenge set by fsw design to design a roadside EV charging station for public use.

The UK government plans to completely phase-out  the  sale  of  non  electric  vehicles  (EVs)  by  2035; however, the  2022  UK  EV  chargepoint  survey found that only 5% of EV owners primarily use a public chargepoint.  To change this, the infrastructure of charge points is being  supported  by  the  £450  million  LEVI scheme, which will connect industry with local authorities in supporting the implementation of change points for public use.

The design adheres to both the PAS  1899:2022 EV accessible charging specification and Disability Discriminations Act.

AISI 1018 steel parts are welded together to create  the  internal  structure. Electronic components are screwed onto the backplate.  Aluminium 5052-H32 sheet metal is formed  then  riveted  to  the  internal  structure. Sub-assembled ABS side panels are fixed into place, covering the edges of the sheet aluminium.  The structure is then fixed onto an ASTM A536 cast iron base.
